1976 Triumph TR7

1976 TRIUMPH TR7 IS A FIRST
The 1976 model year was the first full model year under the newly-formed, worked-owned Meriden Co-op. It was also the first year that the big twins (Bonneville and TR7 went to left-foot-shift, as mandated by US law. It was a big change to have to make for the cash-strapped Co-op, but the scrappy Brits were ahead of the curve for once. During the factory closure of '74 and '75, the engineering department was working feverishly (and often off-the-clock) to prepare to meet the new US standards. By the time they re-opened for business, the tooling was ready and the switch was made on all 1976-and-later Bonnevilles and TR7s. With so much to do in so little time, and with so little to work with, the only other changes from the 1975 model year were paint colors and minor details.
