Motorcycle Rain Suits

HERE'S MY STORY ABOUT MOTORCYCLE RAIN SUITS
In 2009, a buddy and I rode cross country on our Harleys from the San Francisco Bay Area to Tampa Bay, Florida, 3,065 miles. We met up with another buddy in San Antonio TX who was riding the rest of the way with us on his Harley. That night, he asked me "how's your rain suit?". I thought he was kidding, and I laughed. "What rain suit?" I cracked. "Are you serious, you don't have a rain suit?", he was aghast. "Hey, I'm a California boy, I can't remember the last time I've ridden in the rain." With all seriousness, he looks me in the eye and says, "We're heading into Florida, you're going to need one, I'm serious." By this time, it was past normal business hours, and we were riding out early the next morning. The only place that was open that might have something was Walmart, and as it turned out they did have something. They had a 2-piece rain suit for...$9.99. That's not a good sign. But, it was the only option available at the time, so I bought it, and strapped it down on top of my gear so it would be easy to get to later. We ran into monsoon-conditions my midday and we all donned our rain gear. My two buddies both had great-looking, proper-fitting, black riding suits, that looked comfortable, weatherproof, and warm. Mine looked more like something my mom might have put me in back in grade school. It was a flimsy blue plastic pant and jacket. After we all had a good laugh at my expense, we ventured off into the downpour. At first, it wasn't too bad on the waterproofing front, but offered no thermal protection at all, and I was pretty cold. But before long, my legs started getting wet. I pulled into the covered rest stop last, and when my buddies saw me, they almost fell down laughing. My ten-dollar rain pants had shredded in the wind, and torn into long strips of maybe an inch wide. When I stepped off my bike, it looked like I was wearing a hula skirt! And of course, my legs were soaked to the bone, and I was cold, uncomfortable, and miserable. Meanwhile, my buddies were comparing notes on who was the driest, warmest or most comfy. I wish this were the end of the story but we still had a long way to go, and the rain actually got worse. I won't take you through all the excruciating details, made all the worse by my lack of a decent rain suit.

The moral of the story is two-fold:
1.) Don't wait until it starts raining to buy your Rain Suit; and

2.) Don't scrimp on it. Get a good one. When the rain starts, you'll be glad you did.

In deference to that thought, we have organized them by price, from highest to lowest. Buy the best one your can afford.
