Norton Commando Hi-Rider

NORTON COMMANDO HI-RIDER BACKGROUND
When the movie "Easy Rider" came out in 1969, it kicked off a chopper boom that lasted through most of the 70s. Several motorcycle manufacturers came out with factory choppers, some better than others. The Harley Super Glide in 1971, the gorgeous Triumph Hurricane in 1973, and the hideous, misguided Norton Commando Hi-Rider in 1971. As with most of Norton's 'specials', it was a mere appearance package on an otherwise stock Commando. Those ridiculous 'ape-hanger' handlebars, and the 'banana seat' and 'sissy bar'. Look at the shape of that seat. Can you imagine ever getting comfortable on it? And what of the poor passenger, sliding downhill into the rider? Lots of these bikes got converted over to normal Commando hardware, so finding an original one with all the original parts is getting harder these days.
